About

Hi, I’m Lyla and welcome to my author website.

I have been writing books since I was little but I have never, ever finished one.

Not once.

From ten year old me writing about my aunt’s dogs to grown up me not passing 5000 words on any given story idea. I’ve decided to finally push through and finish a book.

My debut novel for adults is a light hearted take on dating in your thirties and all the interesting ways we delude ourselves and others. It’s rough out there and my lead character has experienced some interesting dates that have nearly sent her packing.

That is until Liam, the shy new IT recruit joins her office and she sets her love phaser to stun. Liam looks perfect from the outside and she has a feeling she’s finally met her perfect match.

Mila is a woman in her thirties who has her sights on the gorgeous IT manager who recently joined her company.

He’s funny, mysterious, and … weirdly into his basement.

But hey, we all got our secrets right?

Debut novel coming 2025

I’m also in the middle of writing a novel for young adults which features your classic vampire high school situation.

A story about just how far you’d go to stand up against the mean girls at your school. Even when it’s discovered they’ve got a supernatural edge.

I wanted this to be my first release as I, like many of you, love high school vampire stories. I get pretty annoyed with tv shows and books where the main character is overly moral, whiny and just plain dull. So, I thought I’d try it my way and write the lead character I wanted to see.

Stay tuned for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How early in 2025 are your books out?

My YA novel should be out early 2025 while the romcom will be out later in the year. More information coming soon.

2. What age group are your books suitable for?

YA books: I write for teenagers and young adults. There are no explicit themes (sex scenes or gratuitous violence) although the books contain experiences that teenagers go through. They may be best read by 10-12 year olds and over and are suitable for adults too.

Adult / chicklit: It’s a bit hard to pin down an age range, but I’m in my early thirties so my main characters will be mid 20’s to mid 30’s. FYI: these books are relatively clean / fade to black.

3. Do you write any other books?

Yes, I write female centered survival thrillers books under the pen name L M Spade.

4. What type of books are coming up?

I have an academy type novel in the works and a sort-of super hero book planned. I also would love to write an apocalyptic book but that ones firmly in the brainstorm phase.

For my adult series I have been brewing a best friends meet … well, I can’t give it away.
